‘Sherlock of Crypto' Faces Lawsuit, but the Crypto Community Has His Back ❤️🩹
We've got a real-life crypto thriller unfolding right before our eyes. Our main character? The crypto community’s favourite detective, ZachXBT, whose relentless chasing and exposing of the bad guys has landed him in legal trouble. 👩⚖️
For years, ZachXBT has been the Batman to our Gotham, uncovering crypto's bad actors and warning us about potential scams. He's also dived headfirst into hacks to share the root cause of exploits with people on Twitter. Our very own go-to Sherlock! 🕵️
Then who’s Suing Sherlock? 👩⚖️
A year ago, ZachXBT wrote an article accusing Jeffrey Huang, a Taiwanese-American musician and tech entrepreneur (also known as Machi Big Brother online), of embezzling millions of dollars worth of Ethereum from Formosa Financial.
And…Formosa Financial, now a ghost town, was co-founded by Huang himself. Talk about a plot twist! 👀
⏭ Fast forward to today, and our Sherlock is in the middle of a defamation lawsuit filed by Huang. ZachXBT describes the situation as a "David and Goliath story" 🗿.
The lawsuit alleges that ZachXBT defamed Huang, causing him "serious reputational and monetary harm."
ZachXBT faces one count of libel and one count of libel per se.
It is also alleged that ZachXBT maliciously promoted the article to his more than 300,000 Twitter followers.
Huang, with his deep pockets, is trying to silence our hero. But ZachXBT isn't backing down. He's ready for the fight. 😤
Crypto Community to the Rescue! ✨
ZachXBT let his 400k+ followers know of the trouble and asked for any donations to cover the legal fees, and guess what? The crypto community has already donated over $1 million to fund his legal defence! 🤯
The wallet is now like a crypto potluck, with contributions in USDC, Tether, Ethereum, and Polygon. 🚀
And who's that we see in the crowd? 👀 Binance CEO CZ tossed in $50,000 and cheered ZachXBT to "keep up the fight" 🥊 Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, donated $10,000 worth of the stablecoin True USD. 💸
ZachXBT, who has helped keep the crypto industry transparent, had his identity revealed in Huang's lawsuit. But he's not letting that slow him down. He’ll be represented by Brown Rudnick, the same firm that helped Johnny Depp win his defamation case, and boy, were they relentless, so we do have high hopes for Zach to win this! 🌟
