Coinbase CEO, Brian Armstrong, says that SEC once asked Coinbase to remove ALL cryptocurrencies except Bitcoin!
Here’s the chain of prior events:
😎 SEC's Request: Delist nearly 200 tokens from Coinbase's platform, leaving only Bitcoin. 🤔 Armstrong’s response: Why do you say that? 🤷♂️ SEC: We’re not going to explain it to you. Remove all except Bitcoin. 🤨 Armstrong: Agreeing to this could mean the end of the crypto industry in the U.S. So, I’ll go to court instead. 👩⚖️ SEC: Okay. We’re filing a lawsuit, accusing you of not following the rules and saying 13 cryptos were not registered.
This happened in June 2023.
This idea is also shared by SEC's big boss, Gary Gensler. He said in an old interview that all other things apart from Bitcoin are "securities". 😳
Right now, both SEC and the CFTC want to control the crypto business in the US.
But a new rule that would give most control to the CFTC and clear the SEC’s role in crypto just passed in the House Agricultural Committee on July 27. ✅
